The 4 Disciplines of Execution

As a teacher, I am no stranger to the "whirlwind". The amount of things we have on our plate on a regular basis is unreal. Between paperwork, planning, emails, meeting with parents and admin, and actually teaching it is so hard to do anything innovative without a real plan of execution. I do believe that installing the 4DX plan for our innovation plan will lead us to be more successful.

When we begin our 4DX plan, we will start with our Wildly Important Goal. Making sure everyone on our team is on the same page is really important. After that, we will decide how much time everyone is expected to spend on our goal and create a scoreboard, when we see the scoreboard and the accomplishments that we have made it will keep us going on those busier than usual or hard weeks.

The Four Disciplines of Execution include:

  1. Focus on the Wildly Important: by focusing on our WIG, or wildly important goal, you can focus on what will make the most impact on your organization.
  2. Act on Lead Measures: Once your team chooses a WIG, they must specify the lead measures that will get them to the goal.
  3. Create a Compelling Scoreboard: The scoreboard that the team creates should be simple, easy to understand, and prominently displayed to keep everyone focused and motivated. A compelling scoreboard helps teams stay accountable, celebrate successes, and quickly identify areas where additional effort is needed.
  4. Create a Cadence of Accountability: By allowing the team to have frequent team meetings to review progress, discuss obstacles, and make commitments for the upcoming period. By creating a cadence of accountability, teams can stay focused, aligned, and committed to achieving their goals.

Using the 4DX plan to achieve the goals we have set in our school will allow us to be more successful and innovative.
