Closing the chapter: Contributions to my Learning & the Learning Community 5318/5389

This is a reflection on my contributions to my own learning and my learning community for both 5318 and 5389. This will be the fourth set of classes I have taken for the ADL program. I feel like this semester just got started and we are already to the end.

I am lucky enough to have created a group at the beginning and they include myself, Shaneigh Smith, Deena Fell, Mattheiu Brooks, and Lance Moran. So far this group has been an integral part of my success in the program and my sanity. I am so thankful for all that they do to make me successful in our classes. They are my sounding board, my cheerleaders, and my friends.

This set of classes has been interesting to me. With it getting closer and closer to testing time at my school and the end of the year, I have been struggling to feel as together as I thought I had it in the other classes. Having two new professors at the same time has been interesting too. I don't feel as connected as I did in my other classes but I know some of that is because of my inability to attend most of the meetings due to scheduling conflicts. Needless to say I am so glad to have made it through two more classes. I am proud of what I have accomplished and the work I have created and shared. I have learned a great deal about professional development and online instructional design.

What went well?

Considering how overwhelmed my life became pretty quickly during these two classes, I think overall everything went pretty well. I worked hard to complete assignments and I turned them all in early or right one time. I also completed discussions, went through the modules, and attended all the meetings I could, although sparsely, throughout the time.

I managed to produce work that I am proud of and was excited to share with others the things I was learning. I am hopeful that our professional development in our district will one day be more engaging and have a more hands on approach.

What could have gone better?

When it rains, it pours. This has by far been the busiest time for me and sometimes I did not know how I was going to get everything done. I tend to label myself as a Type C person. I try to be organized and plan my time well but it has always been a struggle for me. That was clearly evident this time around. Some things I could have planned better but so many things popped up this time that I was not prepared for.

Finding the balance between all of the different aspects of my life will always be something I'm working towards. I wish I was able to attend more of the meetings but with my son being in baseball it made it nearly impossible to make it work. I am looking forward to things slowing down over the summer as I wrap up my final two classes!

My Contributions

Throughout our time in both classes I did my best to make contributions to not only myself but to the people in my group and in my classes. I took part in the discussion posts with my initial discussion post and responding to others.

In my group I made sure to celebrate all our wins and listen to their struggles and attempt to help them in any way I could. For each assignment I gave them feedforward and made adjustments based on their advice.

Once again Matthieu pulled through and created another awesome GoogleDoc for us to stay updated and see what everyone is working on. It is so helpful to have all of those things in once place and I am so thankful to Matt for creating it. I am still a member of the Facebook  group and when someone posts and I am able to help, I always do.

Overall, I am pleased with what I have accomplished and learned in these two classes. I am looking forward to the next two classes and a summer to decompress!
