What is an innovative educator? Lisa Neilsen says that to be an innovative educator you must, "provide environments where students engage in innovative, real-world experiences that they find meaningful." I think that the goal of most teachers is to have engaging lessons that their students will learn meaningful things from. Unfortunately, there are so many things that block teachers from being able to do these things on a regular basis. I am always working towards being an innovative educator. After viewing Lisa Neilsen's post, I could see how some of those lessons almost meet the mark but taking it one step further and bringing it public is definitely the step that makes it real-world and meaningful.

When we are able to do things like our Project Base Learning things that we do, I do feel like my student's learning is more engaging and based on real-world experiences. These projects have an essential question that is based on problems and the students take it through a series of steps to find a solution. They are able to make mistakes and go back to the drawing board and try again and we facilitate their learning while they do.
